K Space's Mural Arts Program for Teens was established in 2016 and has since taken off! K Space Contemporary is proud to host a summer mural arts program for teens, the only one of its kind in the Coastal Bend region. This program is designed for teens ages 13 to 17 who want to be more involved in their local art community and are interested in pursuing art in the future. To date, K Space's Mural Art Program for teens has installed 27 murals in Corpus Christi. See some of our previous projects here.

Applications for the summer of 2026 Camp are NOW OPEN!

This year, our Summer Camp will be hosted in Downtown Corpus Christi.

Participants will be selected by juried application and will be notified of their status within 3-4 business days of receiving their application.

Due to generous funding from H-E-B,  Camp will be FREE for all attendees!
We thank H-E-B for their continued support and dedication to providing meaningful and accessible art experiences in our community.

Detailed Camp Information:

Camp begins at 9 am and ends at 3:30 pm. Campers are to be dropped off at 415 D Starr Street, and they will then be led to our upstairs studio work area. You may drop off as early as 8:30 but no earlier.

Campers will need to bring their own water bottles, but K Space will provide jugs of drinking water for campers to refill as needed. Lunch will be generously provided by HEB, and lunch selections will be directly sent to campers after their acceptance letters.

Most of the work for this mural will be done inside our air-conditioned studio space but there will be one to two designated install days each week. (Usually Friday). Our mural location for 2026 will be on the wall inside the Garden Area of El Camino, just down the street near Water Street Oyster Bar. and Executive Surf Club.

Wednesdays are our Mural tour days. We will walk around downtown for about 30 minutes observing and studying the murals done by other artists over the years, and some of our previous camp murals. Please wear comfortable walking shoes, and we recommend a hat, sunglasses, water, and sunscreen that morning.

During on-site workdays, we will have coolers of water and tents for campers to catch some shade. If needed, campers will also be able to cool off inside K Space Contemporary, where they will also have access to a bathroom and extra water. We recommend campers bring sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, fans, and wear long sleeves (like ishing shirts) to keep the sun off. We will only be outside a few hours of the day, starting in the morning.

Friday of each week, K Space will host a weekly reception to show parents the progress made during the week. These will happen at 3:00 pm every Friday the camp is in session.

Our grand reveal and opening reception for this year's mural will be on August 7th, during the August Art Walk!

About the Mural Design:

"Seasons of the Sparkling City" - 2022
at 1524 S.Staples Street

The 2022 Mural "The Seasons of the Sparkling City" was designed by instructors Monica Marie Garcia and Mayra Zamora. The inspiration came after brainstorming ideas with building owners Andrew and Nikki Riojas and discussing things that represent Corpus Christi and our community. Each panel is designed to represent the different seasons both physically and culturally.

K Space Contemporary Portrait Project- 2022 Antonio E. Garcia Center 2021 Agnes St.

Beginning in 2022, Executive Director, Michelle Smythe suggested that Mural Camp participants create a self-portrait using the same method as we create our murals. It is a fun and creative way of keeping a record of camp participants current and former. These self-portraits will be installed in the entrance of the Antonio E. Garcia Arts and Education Center in September of 2022. This mural project will be added to each year, eventually filling up the entire entryway. It is not just portraits of campers but also portraits of those who have played an integral part in K Space's education programs over the years including previous instructors, K Space staff, and those who have helped us develop along the way.

Thank you to our sponsors and partners who make this program possible!
