This workshop talks about the designs, symbolism, and historic relevance of the underground railroad quilts in the United States. These quilt designs were a mnemonic device to safely guide escaped slaves in their journey to their freedom.
Prof. Leila Hernandez will have a small talk on how and why those quilt designs have been applied to the Visa Negra artwork followed by a workshop where attendees will create a quilt pattern inspired on the historic designs, using color schemes and visual texture.
