Jinsun Kim- C.O.C.O.O.N: Healing"
May 1- June 6, 2026
My work investigates the cocoon as a symbolic site of healing, transformation, and survival. Rooted in deeply personal childhood memories of my mother’s struggle with diabetes, this theme connects the biological and the emotional, the intimate and the universal. During my mother’s recovery, my family often visited silkworm farms, where I watched the creatures quietly spin their cocoons—enclosures of fragility and resilience. Over time, the cocoon and silkworm evolved in my imagination from natural forms into potent metaphors for renewal and care.
Through my mixed-media practice, I explore how art can function as a restorative space—one that bridges the personal and collective experience, the body and the environment, the visible and the invisible. My immersive installations invite viewers into cocoon-like spaces shaped by sound, smell, and touch, where reflection and transformation unfold. Within these environments, healing is not depicted as passive recovery, but as an active, ongoing process—a dialogue between vulnerability, endurance, and rebirth.
