Corpus Christi, TX:  As photography becomes increasingly digital, many photographers are turning to techniques and processes from the dawn of the medium to reinvent their image making. This workshop is an investigation into the expressive possibilities of the Cyanotype process, which involves an iron-based chemical formula that creates a light sensitive emulsion. This emulsion is painted onto paper or alternative surfaces and then exposed by placing a negative (or object) on the emulsion and making a contact print with a UV light source. This workshop will cover and demonstrate the techniques and procedures used for creating photograms, pinhole cyanotypes and the use of digital negatives. Different chemistry formulas, emulsions, coating methods and paper choices will be discussed. Students should be prepared to bring in several of their own images in negative form such as B&W negatives, paper and acetate negatives and digital negatives for this workshop. Small objects may be used for the photogram process. Come prepared to play, experiment, and explore these fascinating alternative processes. Limited to 10 participants.

No prior photographic knowledge is required.

What you come away with: Each artist will take home at least 3 final cyanotype prints, along with an information packet on how to continue making cyanotypes at home.

Corpus Christi, TX:  K Space Contemporary and Antonio E. Garcia Arts & Education Center is hosting Your Place. . .your community, a Collaborative Workshop with artist, Lesli Robertson. The community is invited to create mixed media collages that will become part of a larger artwork. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to explore their artistic voice as they work with concrete, textiles, and learn about mold making. The works created by each individual will be combined into a large work of art, which will be included in an exhibition at K Space Contemporary (Jan. 6 – Feb. 24, 2012) and later permanently displayed at the Garcia Center.  The workshop will be open to students, teachers and community members and is free and open to the public.
